Shandong Zibo – NSW Sydney Trade and Investment Seminar 2013

I would like to acknowledge Mayor of Zibo Municipal Government, Mr Xu Jingyan; His Excellency Li Huaxin, Consul General of The People’s Republic of China in Sydney, my colleague, Mr Mark Coure, State Member for Oatley and Mr Edward Lin, President of Auscham-Fujian Branch and Managing Director of Holiday (Australia) Investment Group.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Australia’s foreign trade and export industry is an important make-up of our economy and Australia and China are natural economic partners.

We have a flourishing bilateral economic and trade relationship – in fact China is now Australia’s biggest two-way trading partner in goods and services.

Of the G20 economies Australia and China are among the few to avoid recession in recent years.

Our bilateral trade of $125.1 billion last year delivered huge benefits to both countries.

While Australia of course isn’t a market on the scale of China, we are still a lucrative market of 23 million people with the world’s fifth highest per-capita incomes. This makes us the fourth largest economy in Asia. Only China, Japan and India are larger.

Our foreign and trade policies help create jobs and boost incomes and reduce economic insecurity.

To help continue the success of our thriving bilateral economic and trade relationship it is important to seek out investment opportunities in China’s industrialised and economically advanced cities, like the City of Zibo.

Zibo has developed into a significant industrial city with solid economic strength in China with over 100 years of modern industrial development and has been recognised as one of the top 50 Chinese cities with an outstanding investment environment.

Zibo has established international sister-city relationships with eleven overseas cities and extensive economic relationships with over 160 countries and regions and is home to a large number of renowned international companies such as SIEMENS, Eastman, Pestorp AB and Metso Paper Inc.

The amicable nature of the people of Zibo and its booming economy makes Zibo an inviting city to invest in or establish your career.

As far as I know, the new project in Zibo city invested by Holiday (Australia) Investment Group and JuPengFei Group with the support of Auscham-Fujian Branch would represent the unique features of culture and tourism, which will become the new landmark and greatly increase the popularity of their city.

I certainly hope the investment opportunities highlighted in tonight’s seminar encourages you to invest in this vibrant city.

Thank you.
