Today NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay and Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs announced the start of environmental planning work for the King Georges Road interchange upgrade, set for early next year.

This means an additional concessional loan of $2 billion funding boost for NSW from the Commonwealth as part of Stage 2 of the WestConnex, on top of the $1.5 billion already committed. WestConnex will connect Sydney’s west and south-west with the CBD, airport and port precincts, with the final stage due to be completed by 2023.

An environmental impact statement (EIS) for the interchange upgrade and noise level is underway. This is great news for the people of Barton who rely on the M5 corridor each day
