It was with great pleasure and honour that I extended my best wishes to the St. George South Asian Youth Group of Desperate Youth Australia on the auspicious occasion of their Summer and Falgun Festival on the 15th of February 2014.
Along with Cr. Shane O’Brien, Mayor of Rockdale, Cr. George Katsabaris, Kogarah Councillor, and President of Desperate Youth Australia Abusaleh, I spoke with local members of the Bangladeshi, Nepalese, Indian, Pakistani and other communities as well as enjoying cultural performances and fine cuisine.
Desperate Youth Australia has made a valuable contribution to the local South Asian community in this electorate of Barton over many years and I commend the tireless efforts of the organisation in providing youth with the opportunities they need to thrive.
The month of Falgun brings with it colourful and merry celebrations of spring, friendship and new life. Such an occasion is an opportunity for representatives of South Asian nations such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Indonesia to meet and celebrate while engaging with the broader Barton community.
As Barton’s federal representative I was proud to take part in these colourful celebrations and on behalf of the electorate of Barton I had the opportunity to thank Desperate Youth Australia for their vital work in youth advancement.
I wish the organisation health and strength for their future endeavours.
